The Beginners Guide

The beginners guide is my favorite part of this package the reason being that the keto diet is unlike any diet you’ve ever done most likely. You’re giving up foods (carbs) that you’ve been enjoying your whole life. That’s why it’s so important to have a guide with you to help you through this process in order to succeed. There are some pit falls that many beginners fall into such as: issues on the toilet, what to do in social situations, and how to transition into a ketogenic lifestyle that a good guide can help you with. This is one of those guides!

The cookbook has over 370 recipes which you can see here. This is an example of one from the Keto Slow Cooker. This is a simple Beef and Butternut Tagine dish tells you exactly what you need, how long it will take, and a guide at the top to make sure you’re within your macros.

My Favorite Ketosis Cookbook Recipes

I’m about to give and reveal some of the recipes on here for you. I hope I don’t run into any copyright issues here but I want you guys to get a good glimpse into what this cookbook has to offer.  I’m a big nacho guy so it should be of no surprise that my favorite recipe is the keto nachos.

Keto Nachos Prep Time 30 Mins
INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 cup cooked taco seasoned ground beef
  • 1/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup jalapenos
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 2 tablespoons guacamole
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  3. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on the wax paper in a thin layer, in the shape of a rectangle. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese evenly over top of the cheddar cheese.
  4. In a small mixing bowl, combine the cumin, garlic powder, and chili powder. Sprinkle the seasoning mix evenly over the top of the cheeses.
  5. Bake on the middle rack for 8 to 10 minutes, checking every minute to ensure that it does not burn. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cheese cool for 10 minutes.
  6. Peel the cooked cheese away from the parchment paper and cut lengthwise into strips. To make this easier, I recommend using a pizza cutter or kitchen shears.
  7. After cutting the cheese into strips, then cut each strip into triangles. Transfer the individual chips back to the parchment paper and broil on high for 1 to 2 minutes.
  8. Let the chips cool and crisp up – about 30 minutes. Pile the chips on a plate and cover with all of your favorite nacho toppings.

Keto Brownies Prep Time 45 Mins

INGREDIENTS

  • 6.17 tsp butter unsalted & softened
  • 1 cup powdered sweetener
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 6.17 oz dark chocolate at least 85% cocoa solids, melted
  • 3/4 cup almond flour Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat your oven to  350 Fahrenheit
  2. Melt the chocolate: Break the chocolate into squares and place in a small bowl. Place this bowl inside a larger bowl which you have filled with boiling water. The water will heat the walls of the small bowl and melt the chocolate.
  3. Blend the VERY soft (or melted) butter, powdered sweetener, eggs and cocoa with a blender or in a food processor.
  4. Add the melted chocolate and almond flour and mix until you have a thick, smooth batter. Line a rectangular baking tin or small casserole dish with baking/parchment paper.
  5. Cut the paper to size so that it covers the bottom and two sides of the dish. Grease the two remaining sides. Fill the batter into the dish and smoothen the top.
  6. Bake 25 minutes or until the top is firm. Let the brownies cool before you remove them from the baking tin. They will be VERY soft when warm will but firm up as they cool down.

Trust me when I tell you that both of these dishes are VERY yummy! This is what you get with the cookbook and more. You don’t have to google around for keto recipes that may not even really be ketogenic friendly.     When we started the whole Keto journey, this was one of the first books we bought after trying it out first from the library, Pretty much everything in this book is delicious, and I am a pretty picky eater. If just starting out with Keto, be prepared for your first supply run at the grocery store to be an expensive one, but after that, you’ll use a lot of the same ingredients again. The book also has a great section in the front that really explains Keto stuff, so this could be the only book you really need for awhile if you are interested.

    The only reason this isn’t all 5 stars has nothing to do with quality or the recipes…it’s that I really wish there was some warning about how long most of these recipes take. Between some of the prep work and actual cooking, some of these recipes take a couple hours at least. This may be pretty daunting for someone just getting started, or not an experienced cook.
