The Truth About CBD Face Serums

Google CBD face serums and you’ll see tons of blogs and articles raving about the miracle cannabidiol oil (CBD) and everything it can do. I’ve seen promises ranging from weight loss, to anti-aging, to even treating ADHD.  I decided to investigate this ‘miracle’ potion for myself and see if it lived up to the promises of its sellers.

For those of you who don’t know my name is Cam and I have a background in studying Biology. So I know what the studies that are often cited actually mean: hint they don’t back up the exaggerated claims of CBD sellers.

What Does CBD Oil Do For The Skin?

So here’s the truth about CBD oil. There just isn’t that much research to back up a lot of the claims of the sellers. I was able to find a credible study that did demonstrate that CBD oil can help to reduce acne and psoriasis and that is because it causes the sebaceous glands in the face to come down and produce less sebum which the acne bacteria like to eat which would reduce the appearance of acne (source) . There was another study that showed it did help improve the appearance of the skin (source).

The problem is that this product is new and because of its connection with marijuana it was taboo. That’s why there hasn’t been a lot of credible research on CBD Oil.

How does CBD Oil Work?

In general, the way CBD oil works is it interacts with the cannabinoid receptors on your skin. We actually have cannabinoid receptors all over our body but they are mostly concentrated in the nervous system which is why people smoke pot to get high in the first place. And the thing is we all have different amounts of cannabinoid receptors on our skin.

It just depends on your personal body makeup . and the effectiveness of the oil depends on how many cannabinoid receptors you have on your face. If you happen to be blessed with a large amount of the receptors then yes the oil will probably be very effective for you. However, if you have very few then the effect will most likely to be less so.

Not All CBD Face Serums Are Created Equal

Before you go out and buy CBD oil you need to know that there was a study that showed up to 26% of the products sold with CBD oil lacked the concentrations of the oil that the manufacturer claimed but 43% had more (source). That makes sense because the oil itself is expensive costing up to $100 a bottle.

In order for a CBD face serum to be effective, it needs to have at least 400 mg of CBD oil in itHere is one you can read about with 500mg and they give you a free bottle.  A high-quality CBD Oil should have the same color as a fine vodka or brandy and not have any particles or clumps in it. Here’s a pure CBD Oil you can look at. You may purchase pure high-quality CBD Oil here

You Won’t Get High from CBD Face Creams

It’s important to know that you won’t get high from using CBD oil and most oils most CBD oils are derived from hemp and not marijuana. Since it’s the marijuana plant that has the high concentration THC (the stuff that makes you high) you don’t need to worry about showing up to work hammered after you’ve applied a CBD face cream.

Are CBD Beauty Products Legal?

The FDA has said it’s legal to use CBD oil derived from hemp. The 2018 Farm Bill loosened regulations on CBD by allowing the cultivation of industrial hemp (a cousin of marijuana) and removing hemp-derived products from the list of Schedule 1 drugs. As of now, the FDA has approved one CBD-powered drug called Epidiolex, used to treat seizures in children with rare types of epilepsy. So long as it has less than 0.3% THC you’re good.

If you want to know more about the legality of CBD oil in the states I have an entire article on the legality of CBD legality.

CBD is Costly

Another thing you need to know is that CBD face creams can be quite costly. A good product with the proper concentrations of CBD oil can cost up to $80 a bottle or higher. Yikes!  So I wouldn’t recommend someone that’s barely making ends meet to invest in this just for the possibility that it’ll remove a couple of wrinkles from their skin. Wait for more credible studies and more data that actually show these products work for the majority of people that use them.

If you want to try it here is a product that gives you a free bottle after you buy one so that should take the bite out of the cost for you.

The Legality of CBD Oil

I have ADHD and there has been some data to show the Cannabidiol Oil (CBD) oil can have a positive impact on symptoms of ADHD in addition to mood, anxiety, skin, and weight loss benefits. That’s why I decided to do some research as to whether or not CBD is legal or not.

Is CBD Legal?

The answer to whether CBD Oil is legal is mostly yes but with some caveats. On the federal level, CBD extracted from Hemp is legal per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). But that doesn’t mean that CBD from marijuana is completely illegal either. In 2018 the FDA approved a CBD drug to treat two epilepsy disorders.

Today, the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 was signed into law. Among other things, this new law changes certain federal authorities relating to the production and marketing of hemp, defined as cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.), and derivatives of cannabis with extremely low (less than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis) concentrations of the psychoactive compound delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). These changes include removing hemp from the Controlled Substances Act, which means that it will no longer be an illegal substance under federal law.

FDA Press Release

However, pure CBD oil extracted from Marijuana is still technically illegal on the federal side as it tends to have a higher concentration of THC (the stuff that makes you high) than CBD extracted from Hemp.

That means your safest bet is to buy CBD products that source their CBD from Hemp instead of Marijuana.

The States:

States where Marijuana is legal for recreational use
States where Marijuana is legal for recreational use

As of May 2019 California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Michigan, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maine have all legalized marijuana for recreational use.  This means CBD derived from pot is also legal for use in those states. However, the federal government has, so far, not elected to crack down on the use of CBD Oil sourced from Marijuana in any state.

In short: You shouldn’t worry about going to jail if you use a CBD product on a consumer level in The United States of America.

Should You Use CBD Oil Products?

Weed is a big business now with new companies emerging on a daily basis making outlandish claims of Marijuana and its derivatives including CBD. There is data to suggest that cannabidiol oil does improve anxiety and mood disorders.  Recently the FDA approved a CBD drug to treat epilepsy disorders (source).

But that doesn’t mean that the positive effects of CBD products haven’t been greatly exaggerated. For example, there has been one study to show that CBD can be a good treatment for acne and another study to show it can reduce signs of aging on the skin and improve skin appearance, however, there simply isn’t enough data to draw any solid conclusions.
